C8 test results

Some participants in the 2005-2006 C8 Health Project may wish to have their original C8 blood level results. If you have participated in the C8 Health Project, and if you have consented to be contacted for C8 Science Panel studies at the time of the C8 Health Project, we can mail you your results: Your C8 blood level, as well as the level of nine other related chemicals also measured at that time.

If you have not consented for C8 Science Panel studies, you can still do so. Download the consent form from this website and mail it in to us, along with the letter requesting your results.

If you are not sure whether or not you consented to C8 Science Panel studies, go ahead and mail us the consent form anyway, along with the letter requesting results.

About 1/3 of the C8 Health Project participants recently (April 2008) received further letters from Brookmar with corrected results of their C8 levels in blood serum. For quality assurance purposes, retesting was done on specimens obtained on or before Dec 7, 2006 and these achieved better results. These new results are more reliable and are the ones we will be sending you, if you were tested before Dec. 7, 2006.

To request your C8 results, please download the letter and mail it to the C8 Science Panel. All information you provide will be kept confidential by the C8 Science Panel, as will your C8 results. The letter asks you for identifying information, so we can be sure to match up the right person with the corresponding lab result.

We will then send you a letter with the values of C8 and other related chemicals which were measured in your blood during the C8 Health Project.

The Science Panel has set up this service following contact to us by some people who had mislaid their original letters with C8 results.

If you are interested to see how your individual results compares to the range of values in the community, you may like to visit the WVU website where the overall distribution of C8 values is summarized for the C8 Health Project participants: See "C8 & C8 Sulfonate Plasma Concentrations - Population Summary" on the page http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/som/cmed/c8/results/C8AndPFCLevels/index.asp
