October 30, 2009Below is a link to a Status Report on C8 and cholesterol levels in children, submitted to the Wood County Court in Parkersburg West Virginia under the C8 Settlement. A more detailed report is being submitted to a peer-reviewed journal for publication. When it is accepted and published, details for accessing them will be provided here. Right-click on the title and save or open the document (pdf format). This report arises from a collaboration between West Virginia University and the Science Panel on analyses of data collected in the C8 Health Project Status report: Association of perfluorooctanic acid (C8/PFOA) and perfluoroctanesulfonate (PFOS) with lipids among children in the Mid-Ohio Valley March 26 2009Below are links to two more status reports which have been filed with the Wood Country Court in WV. The first report concerns the time required for C8 to be removed from the body after exposure stops. This study is based on 200 people in the Lubeck and Little Hocking water districts, whose blood level of C8 was measured over a year period before and after the installation of water filters which have removed C8 from public drinking water. The second evaluates several indicators of the health of pregnancies among women who participated in the C8 Health Project and had a pregnancy shortly before enrollment. The reports are concise summaries of some results of this work. More detailed reports are being submitted to peer-reviewed journals for publication. March 18 2009Below is a link to a status report filed with the Wood County Court, summarising results of analyses linking C8 exposure in the Mid Ohio valley to markers of immune status. The reports are concise summaries of some results of this work. These results were also presented at a workshop at the annual conference of the Society of Toxicology - in Baltimore on March 19 by Science Panelist Tony Fletcher. More detailed reports are being submitted to peer-reviewed journals for publication. Right-click on the title and save or open the document (pdf format). Status Report: PFOA and immune biomarkers in adults exposed to PFOA in drinking water in the mid Ohio valley January 27, 2009Below is a link to a Status Report submitted to the Wood County Court in Parkersburg West Virginia under the C8 Settlement. It is a concise summary of some results of this work. A more detailed report is being submitted to a peer-reviewed journal for publication. When it is accepted and published, details for accessing them will be provided here. Right-click on the title and save or open the document (pdf format). This report arises from work in one of the Science Panel studies "Cholesterol, diabetes, uric acid, and C8 levels among participants in the C8 Health Project" 15 October 2008Below are listed 3 Status Reports submitted to the Wood County Court in Parkersburg West Virginia under the C8 Settlement. Each report is a concise summary of the key findings of this work. More detailed reports are being submitted to a peer-reviewed journal for publication. When they are accepted and published details for accessing them will be provided here. Right-click on the title and save or open the document (pdf format). These three reports arise from work in one of the Science Panel studies "Cholesterol, diabetes, uric acid, and C8 levels among participants in the C8 Health Project"
Procedure for release of Study ResultsThe Science Panel is planning to complete a series of reports on various health measures and C8 over the coming months and years that will contribute important knowledge regarding the potential health effects of C8 exposure. We explain here our process for making available these results: to the Court, to the public and the media, and though scientific journals. For a number of these results we are working in collaboration with West Virginia University When we complete the analysis and interpretation of the data on a specific issue, the following will occur:
It should be noted that this only concerns release of results from individual studies, not the announcement of the Science Panel's Findings regarding a probable link between C8 exposure and any disease. That determination will require putting together all the evidence and will be handled exclusively through the Court. This is explained on another page on this website: click on "The Science Panel" on the menu. |
